Itinerary for the day from 8.30am-5.00pm                                                                             

-Door Open                                                                     8.30am

-Group Chanting and Group Meditation                    10.00am-11.00am   

-Lunch                                                                            11.00am-12.00noon 

-Self Practice                                                                  1.00pm-5pm

Breakfast and Lunch will be served to all participants.

Uposatha days are times of renewed dedication to Dhamma practice, observed by lay followers and monastics throughout the world of Theravada Buddhism.

For monastics, these are often days of more reflection and meditation. In many monasteries physical labour (construction projects, repairs, etc.) is curtailed. On New Moon and Full Moon days the fortnightly confession and recitation of the intensive Bhikkhu Patimokkha (monastic rules of conduct) takes place.

Lay people observe the Eight Precepts on Uposatha days, as a support for meditation practice and as a way to re-energize commitment to the Dhamma. Whenever possible, lay people use these days as an opportunity to visit the local temples or Buddhist centres, in order to make special offerings to the Sangha, to listen to Dhamma, and to practise meditation with Dhamma companions.

About Jack Kornfield :
Jack Kornfield trained as a Buddhist monk in the monasteries of Thailand, India and Burma. He has taught meditation internationally since 1974 and is one of the key teachers to introduce Buddhist mindfulness practice to the West. He began his training after graduating from Dartmouth College in Asian Studies in 1967. Then he joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to the Public Health Service in northeast Thailand, which is home to several of the world’s oldest Buddhist forest monasteries. He met and studied under the Buddhist master Ven. Ajahn Chah, as well as the Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw of Burma. After returning to the United States, Jack co-founded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, with fellow meditation teachers Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein. He is also a founding teacher of the Spirit Rock Center in Woodacre, California, where he currently lives and teaches. Over the years, Jack has taught in centers and universities worldwide, led International Buddhist Teacher meetings with the Dalai Lama and worked with many of the great teachers of our time. He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and is a father and activist.

His books have been translated into 20 languages and sold more than a million copies.

Date: Tuesday, Dec 17, 2013 Time : 7am-9.30pm Schedule: The centre will open at 7am-9.30pm. Morning event will be group chanting and self practice. Breakfast and Lunch will be served to all participants. Evening Event will commence at 7.30pm for group chanting, group meditation followed by video presentation and group dhamma sharing.

Despite the rain it did not deter devotees from making their way to Ti-Ratana Penchala to attend the Dhamma talk.
