Human Potential Development Talks - THE MIND–MATTER EXPERIENCE (For non muslim only)
Dear Brothers & Sisters
Sukhihotu. We invite you to the following talk by Bro Billy. Details as follows:-
TOPIC : THE MIND–MATTER EXPERIENCE
DATE : 3rd SEPTEMBER 2011
TIME : 7:30PM – 9:00PM
VENUE : Ti-Ratana Penchala Shrine Hall
OBJECTIVE
To help us realize that our memory and imagination, as well as the way our Mind interprets sensory inputs, distort the realities of our experiences; and to understand how we can better manage this from a Buddhist perspective, to help bring happiness and peace of mind into our lives.
SYNOPSIS
Can we really trust our senses? How does the memory of our fluid past and our imagination of an uncertain future affect our perception of realities?
In this talk, we will review psychological evidence how our mind is easily fooled by our senses, and how memory and imagination distort our perception of realities in life. In the process of experiencing by the organism in an environment, seen from a Buddhist perspective, there is really no mind and there is no matter, there is only experience. It is our unconscious emotional reaction to our experiences that causes insecurity, uncertainty, and instability that lead to “Dukha”. We apply this learning together with the teachings of the Buddha to help bring us happiness and peace of mind.
Videoclips of research findings from the fields of Behavioural Psychology and Neuroscience help enhance this presentation.
(For Non-Muslim Only)

PINDAPATTA (8am), SANGHIKA DANA( 10am) DHAMMA TALK( 8pm) on 17 Aug 2011
Namo Buddhaya Brothers and Sisters in the Dhamma
We are pleased to announce on the 16-18 Aug 2011,Ti-Ratana Penchala will be expecting 15 Mahasanghas members whom are Abbots of branch Monasteries of Loung Por Gunha's,Thailand. The branch monasteries are all over Thailand and we are fortunate not having to travel the distance to meet with the 15 Abbots Monks.
See details below:
See details below:
Pana
16 Aug - 7.00pm
17 Aug - 4.30 pm
Serving tea, coffee, honey, fruit juices (fresh or packet fruit juices without pulp, fruit juices, tomato juice is allowed), dark chocolate (without milk/fruits/nuts), sorbet with no residue of pulps or particles, sunflower seeds, soft cheese (cheese stick, cheddar,Danish Camembert, brie etc ) and seaweed.
When offering fresh fruit juice it is important that it is well strained so that no pulp or fruit particles remain, for the fruit itself counts as food and so cannot be consumed in the afternoon. Some places in Thailand will strain the juice in a cloth filter seven times to make sure, but the main point is that the filter is fine enough.
"Juice drinks include the freshly squeezed juice of sugar cane, lotus root, all fruits except grain, all leaves except cooked vegetables, and all flowers except the [bassia latifolia] (Mahaavagga.VI.35.6). According to the Commentary, the juice must be strained, and may be warmed by sunlight but not heated over a fire."(BMC p.339)
Some communities will not accept fruit juice made from 'large fruits':
"In discussing the Great Standards, the Commentary says that grain is a "great fruit," and thus the juice of any one of nine large fruits — palmyra fruit, coconut, jack fruit, breadfruit, bottle gourd, white gourd, musk melon, water melon, and squash — would fall under the same class as the juice of grain... From this judgment, many Communities [in Thailand] infer that the juice of any large fruit, such as pineapple or grapefruit, would also be classed as a non-staple food [and therefore could not be consumed in the afternoon.]" (BMC p.339)
* If you wish to offer above items to Loung Por and Ajahns, please inform us by 11 Aug. All items must be prepared and served individual portion basis.

ABOUT KATHINA FESTIVAL
Kathina is a Buddhist festival which comes at the end of Vassa, the three-month rainy season retreat for Theravada Buddhist monks. It is a time for the laity to express gratitude to monks. Lay Buddhists bring donations to temples, especially new robes for the monks.
As the legend goes, thirty bhikkhus were journeying with the intention of spending Vassa with Gautama Buddha. However, Vassa began before they reached their destination and they had to stop. According to Buddha's guidelines for Vassa, mendicant monks shouldn't travel during the rainy season as they may unintentionally harm crops and insects during their journey. As such, the monks had to stop.
Afterwards, the Buddha rewarded the monks by demonstrating a way to practice sharing and generosity. A lay disciple had previously donated cloth to the Buddha, so the Buddha now gave that cloth to the group of monks and told them to make it into a robe and then offer it as a gift to one of them. A frame, called a Kathina, was used to spread the robe while it was being made.
Accounts of Vassa and Kathina are found in the Mahavagga volume of the Vinaya Pitaka, the Buddhist scriptures pertaining to monastic rules for monks and nuns.

Human Potential Development Talks - PERCEPTION, INTENTION, EXPECTATION (For non muslim only)
Dear Brothers & Sisters
Sukhihotu. We invite you to the following talk by Bro Billy. Details as follows:-
TITLE : PERCEPTION, INTENTION, EXPECTATION
DATE : 6th AUGUST 2011
TIME : 7:30PM – 9:00PM
DURATION : Approx 90 minutes including Q & A
VENUE : Ti-Ratana Penchala Shrine Hall
OBJECTIVE
To help us understand our how our thoughts and emotions interact to form our Perception of the world around us, and how Intentions and Expectations motivate our behaviour. We apply this learning from a Buddhist perspective to help us experience greater happiness and peace of mind.
SYNOPSIS
How do we perceive the world through our senses? What motivates us to behave in certain ways? Why do we sometimes react emotionally while other times we can remain calm and rational? Whether we become happy, or unhappy, this has a lot to do with our Perception of the world around us, as well as our Intentions and our Expectations in everyday life.
The speaker first explains some of the happenings inside our mind and body from a psychological perspective – how Perceptions are formed, how emotions are aroused, how we become motivated to take action, and what happens to our physiology when we are emotionally aroused.
The speaker then relates latest findings in Psychology and Neuroscience with key aspects of Buddhist teachings such as of “karma”, “vipaka”, the 5 Aggregates, and the 6 Sensual Fields.
Video of research findings from the fields of Psychology and Neuroscience help enhance the presentation.
